of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry (SSI) is an apex body of small scale
manufacturers of drugs and pharmaceuticals in the Country. |
CODE OF ETHICS – MARKETING PRACTICES |
1. |
No new product shall be promoted before FDA registration. | |
2. |
All promotional materials shall provide the prescribing-information in correct clear and legible manner. | |
3. |
Promotional materials should not carry misleading price-comparisons. | |
4. |
Exaggerated claims should not be made in promotional materials. | |
5. |
All efforts should be made before deciding the brand name so that it does not infringe someone else’s trade mark. | |
6. |
Companies shall not offer monetary or any other reward to doctors as a consideration for seeking product support. | |
7. |
Companies shall not conduct residential CME (continuing medical education) programmes. | |
8. |
Companies shall offer only modest refreshments (small lunch/dinner) during CMEs and medical conferences. | |
9. |
Companies shall not sponsor foreign/domestic trips for doctors to seek product support. | |
10. |
Companies shall make only appropriate/reasonable contributions for medical conferences. | |
11. |
During symposium, congress etc. gifts offered to medical and allied professionals shall be kept to modest levels. | |
12. |
Companies shall not import and market scheduled formulations with the purpose of circumventing the ceiling prices fixed for similar domestic formulations or for circumventing the provisions of DPCO. |

13. |
Where ever applicable, companies must strictly adhere to ceiling prices of formulations as fixed by the govt. from time to time. | |
14. |
Guidelines for Medical Representatives (MRs) | |
a. |
MRs shall be provided adequate training regarding medical information so that they may present product information to the medical profession in correct & ethical manner. | |
b. |
MRs shall not offer any inducement to gain product support from the medical profession. | |
c. |
When MR’s have prior permission to conduct meetings with the medical profession, they may offer tea / soft-drinks with light snacks. | |
d. |
MR’s shall maintain records of all samples received & distributed by them. | |
e. |
MRs shall not offer financial/material benefits to stockists / retailers for pushing the companies products. | |
