Among the DCGI's list of 1067 blacklisted combination drugs, which are being withdrawn from the market all over the country, around 330 product licenses were issued by the Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) during the last more than a decade. As the DCGI noose tightens around the neck of state drug controllers to act fast on the matter, the state FDA has issued instructions to stop production and return the already marketed products of all the 330 combination drugs.

A senior FDA official said that 330 combination drugs will be out of the shelves of 45,000 medical stores of Maharashtra as the state drug control department has issued instructions to the manufacturers of these combinations to stop production and return the stocks from the retail medical pharmacies, wholesale pharmacies, A&F agents, manufacturing cites and other godowns.

Acting on DCGI directive to withdraw licences to the combination drugs issued by the state drug control departments, the state FDA has asked its joint commissioners in all the seven divisions of the state to issue 'stop production and return stock' order to the manufacturers of around 330 combination drugs. "We have issued instructions to the joint commissioners of all the seven divisions, Mumbai, Pune, Konkan, Aurangabad, Nasik, Nagpur and Amravati, to stop production and return the stocks of around 330 combination drugs in the state," a senior FDA official said.

Besides, the state FDA has issued 'seize and launch prosecution' order against those who sell the banned products as per the DCGI list. There are 12 brands of Analgin combinations in this list which were banned by the DCGI for sale in the country.
